Haren hit hard in D-Backs’ loss to Cubs
TUCSON, Ariz. — Dan Haren allowed seven runs and 10 hits in four innings against a Chicago Cubs lineup featuring few regulars, and the Arizona Diamondbacks lost 7-2 Thursday.
Haren, the Diamondbacks opening day starter, was scheduled to throw about 90 pitches in six innings. But he threw about 80 in four innings and gave up five runs in the second. His spring ERA is 5.60.
Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny allowed two runs and five hits in six innings for the Cubs. His ERA is 3.07. Gorzelanny is competing for a spot in the starting rotation, which will be announced Friday. He struck out four and walked one.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella has a sore back and didnt make the trip to Tucson. Bench coach Alan Trammell was the interim manager.
