Mauer, Twins hit Phillies hard in 8-4 win
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Reigning AL MVP Joe Mauer had two hits and two RBIs and the Minnesota Twins roughed up Cole Hamels in a 8-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.
Hamels gave up five runs on seven hits and in 6 1-3 innings.
Mauer, who signed a $184 million contract extension earlier this month, is hitting .448 this spring. Jim Thome added a two-run homer off Jose Contreras in the seventh.
Hamels was rolling right through the spring with a 1.69 ERA in three starts until the Yankees scored seven runs, six earned, on nine hits in four innings Monday.
Hamels gave up two-run doubles to Michael Cuddyer in the fourth inning and Mauer in the fifth.
Greg Dobbs had a homer and a double for the Phillies.
