Colorado coach Bzdelik meets with players
BOULDER, Colo. — Colorado basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik met with his team and told them he has neither accepted nor been offered the coaching position at Wake Forest.
A statement released by the school Sunday explained that Bzdelik informed his squad he will meet with Wake Forest officials on Monday to talk about the opening.
The Demon Deacons fired coach Dino Gaudio last week after three seasons in which he compiled a 61-31 record. Gaudio was a combined 1-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA tournament games.
Bzdelik is 36-58 in three seasons with the Buffaloes. Colorado showed signs of improvement last season by turning in a 15-16 record. The team almost stunned a top-ranked Kansas team in February, falling 72-66 in overtime.
Before taking over at Colorado, Bzdelik found plenty of success during a two-year stint at Air Force, where he was 50-16. He led the Falcons to the NCAA tournament in 2005-06 and to the Final Four of the NIT the following season.
Bzdelik also spent 2½ years coaching the Denver Nuggets, leading them to a 73-119 mark.
