Huskies get Portland prep recruits Ross and Jones

SEATTLE — Washington has picked up a pair of highly regarded recruits for the 2010-11 season out of Portland’s Jefferson High School.

Washington confirmed Friday evening it had received a national letter of intent from 6-foot-5 guard Terrence Ross. At a news conference earlier in the day at Jefferson, 6-foot-9 forward Terrence Jones also announced he plans to attend Washington.

NCAA rules prohibit Washington officials from commenting on Jones until they receive his letter of intent.

Jones averaged 32 points and 13 rebounds per game this season and helped Jefferson to a third consecutive state title. He was rated among the top 20 high school recruits in the country. He also was considering five other schools: Kansas, Kentucky, Oregon, Oklahoma and UCLA.

Ross played with Jones at Jefferson as a sophomore before transferring to a school in Maryland. He returned to Jefferson midway through his senior season in hopes of playing with Jones but could not play due to transfer rules.

“Terrence Ross is rare in that he possesses a high-level combination of athleticism and is yet an outstanding shooter. He’s just scratching the surface as how good he can be,” Washington coach Lorenzo Romar said in a statement. “He will definitely help with us trying to become a better shooting basketball team. He gives us instant help in that regard.”
