Miller, 2 relievers throw minor-league no-hitter

JUPITER, Fla. — Former first-round draft pick Andrew Miller and two relievers combined for the first no-hitter in Jupiter Hammerheads history Thursday in a 4-0 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals.

The 24-year-old Miller, drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the first round in 2006 out of North Carolina, had six strikeouts and allowed six walks in six innings. Peter Andrelczyk and Corey Madden pitched the final three innings for Class-A Jupiter.

Miller was dealt to the Florida Marlins before the 2008 season in a trade that sent Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers but the left-hander struggled to stay in Florida’s starting rotation.

In 2009, he was 3-5 with a 4.84 ERA in 20 appearances with the Marlins and was optioned to the minors before the start of this season.
