A’s Duchscherer placed on DL with inflamed hip
OAKLAND, Calif. — Justin Duchscherer’s inflamed left hip is much better following a cortisone shot Wednesday, yet the two-time All-Star has been placed on the disabled list by the Oakland Athletics considering he’s not yet ready to pitch.
The move made Friday is retroactive to April 30, a day after the right-hander last appeared in a game. That means he could return to start next Saturday against the Angels in Anaheim. The A’s recalled righty reliever Edwar Ramirez from Triple-A Sacramento to fill Duchscherer’s roster spot.
Duchscherer, who missed all of last season recovering from elbow surgery and then a bout with clinical depression, said he felt fine after playing catch during Thursday’s off day. He is set to throw a bullpen session Monday before the team travels to Texas.
