UConn roughs up Central Conn. 25-5 in NCAAs

NORWICH, Conn. — Mike Olt homered twice and drove in eight runs as Connecticut defeated Central Connecticut State 25-5 Saturday in an elimination game in the NCAA Norwich Regional.

Connecticut (48-15), which lost to Oregon 5-3 Friday, kept its tournament hopes alive with a season-high 26 hits. The Huskies will play the loser of Saturday night’s game between Oregon and Florida State.

Olt, a junior third baseman, became UConn’s all-time leader in both home runs and RBI. Olt, who went 4 for 4, has 44 homers, passing the record of 43 established by Jason Grabowski from 1995-97. His previous career high for RBI in a single game had been five. His career total of 177 RBI moves him ahead of Brian Packin, who had 170 from 1997-2000.

Shortstop Sean Allaire singled to left in the sixth for his 100th hit of the season for Central (33-23). The Blue Devils committed five errors.
