Sosnoski hits 2 HRs as Virginia Tech cruises
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Buddy Sosnoski homered twice and drove in six runs, and Ronnie Shaban added four RBIs as Virginia Tech eliminated Bucknell from the NCAA tournament with a 16-7 victory Saturday.
The Hokies had 16 hits against six Bison pitchers and advanced to play the loser of the South Carolina-Citadel in another elimination game tomorrow.
Virginia Tech (39-21) scored nine runs in the first two innings to take control. Austin Wates, Shaban, Sosnoski and Andrew Rash drove in runs in the five-run fifth inning.
Starter Trey Frahler couldn’t get out of the second inning for Bucknell (25-35). He retired the first two batters of the inning before the team had to endure a 104-minute rain delay. When play resumed, the Hokies scored four runs to chase him.
