LONDON - England according to FIFA statistics has probably put up its worst performance in the finals.
According to FIFA, Fabio Capello’s flops are officially ranked as 13th of the 32 teams competing in South Africa.

The previous lowest finish - apart from the three they did not qualify for in 1974, 1978 and 1994 - was in 1958 in Sweden when England were 11th.

In those days 16 teams took part. But if the rankings are reviewed back to 1998, when the World Cup was increased to 32 teams, it is still shocking, reports The Sun.

England was, of course, knocked out in the last 16 this year due to a 4-1 hammering by Germany.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter claimed yesterday that England has stood still while the rest of the world has improved.

England’s previous finishes: 1950 - 8th (13 teams, 1954 - 6th (16 teams), 1958 - 11th. 1962 8th. 1966 1st, 1970 8th, 1982 6th (24 teams), 1986 8th. 1990 4th. 1998 9th (32 teams). 2002 6th. 2006 6th. 2010 13th. (ANI)
