NCAA gives basketball coaches good grades
The NCAA has released details of its first academic report card for coaches — and men’s basketball coaches got mostly high marks.
Data released Thursday showed 13 teams in this year’s final Top 25 had perfect scores of 1,000, and that only three schools in the poll fell below the 925 cutline for the most recent academic year, 2008-09.
The NCAA released numbers for teams in six sports — baseball, football, men’s and women’s basketball and women’s indoor and outdoor track. No penalties will be assessed for poor scores and averages for the coaches were not available.
Scores for Kentucky coach John Calipari topped 925 in three of the previous four years. Bob Huggins had perfect scores in each of his two previous seasons. The lowest score for Huggins at West Virginia was 981.
