CHICAGO (GaeaTimes.com) — The Chicago Cubs were tantalizingly close to cutting the deal with 35 year old Derrek Lee. The first baseman would have been an asset to the Los Angeles Angels as he possesses a average of .251 along with the distinction of hitting 16 home runs. There were doubts regarding his transfer due to his option to veto the transfer if he sees fit But in a breaking news he has changed his mind again. He will indeed join the Atlanta Braves.
The only concern for the Cubs was probably Derrek Lee’s problem with his back. The ace first batsman is currently in a contract of $13 million. He is due to become a free agent next year. Derrek made no comment regarding the transfer owing to the upcoming game against the San Diego Padres. But after the dismal 5-1 loss in the game he said
“It just felt right”
Manager Lou Piniella proffered to keep his options open during the negotiation. In an interview he said.
There’s no reason to speculate. We’ll just have to see what happens. But I wouldn’t put that much credence on rumors until something happens or not happens. Look, any manager would love Derrek Lee in his lineup, and certainly I feel the same. But we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
The manager of the cubs said
Certainly it’s unfortunately we’ve gotten ourselves in the spot we’re in now, But it is a great opportunity for Derrek to join a first-place club
The speculations are there that Derrek Lee wont oppose the deal was indeed true. He could not resist leaving the struggling Cubs to join the Braves. He will start training with the Braves from Friday.
