GREENSBORO (GaeaTimes.com)- Indian professional golfer Arjun Atwal created history on Sunday when he registered victory at the Wyndham Championship which made him the first Indian to win a US PGA tour. The noted golfer was able to shoot a three-under par 67 in the final round on the tough American circuit at Greensboro, North Carolina which enabled him to defeat American David Toms by one stroke. Although Arjun Atwal has reserved victories in the European and Asian tours, apart from his nationwide golfing ventures, a win at the PGA tour had remained elusive all this while. However, the stunning performance that the golfer displayed on Sunday made sure that his dream of winning a US PGA tour ultimately materializes.
While responding to his amazing feat, a visibly delighted Arjun Atwal told the reporters later that he was at a loss of words to describe how he was feeling while adding that he was indeed feeling great about the triumph. When the 37-year-old player entered Sunday’s round he had a lead of three-shots and required a par on the closing hole to clinch victory. Despite the fact that the ace golfer later revealed to the media that he indeed had been nervous at this moment, he went ahead to deliver a putt for par from seven feet in the ultimate round which ensured his win.
Following his stupendous victory, Arjun Atwal has managed to win accolades from various quarters. A statement that was released by Sports Minister Manohar Singh acknowledged the pro golfer’s triumph as a remarkable achievement and noted that it would put Indian golfers on a higher level in the international circuit.
