LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Sunday that Vin Scully would return for another season with the team in 2011. Considering that the 82 year old veteran sportscaster announced last year that it could be the final year with the team, the announcement has come as surprise to many. This will be his 62nd year with the Dodgers for whom he started calling in 1950 when the team was in Brooklyn.
The Hall of Famer, Vin Scully said that he is honored and humbled to continue his association with the Dodgers after the announcement. Earlier on Saturday, Vin Scully had told the media that he would announce his future plans before the Dodgers game on Sunday. He had added that he would like to make the announcement in a way that everyone gets to hear it. Most people speculated that the 82 year old will finally hang his shoes but the announcement on Sunday assured the fans that they will continue to hear the voice that has represented the Dodgers over the years.
Frank McCourt, the present owner of the Dodgers said that he is as thrilled as the fans about Vin Scully’s return. In recent years, Vin Scully has called all the home games and the road games for the Dodgers. He reduced his traveling with the Dodgers years ago due to loneliness of travel and the time he spent away from his wife. He generally calls all nine innings of the game with the first three being simulcast on TV and Radio and the rest only on the TV side.
