Montero, Reynolds spark Diamondbacks to 11-3 win.
SAN FRANCISCO — Miguel Montero hit a three-run double to highlight a six-run first inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks went on to beat Barry Zito and the San Francisco Giants 11-3 on Saturday night.
Mark Reynolds added a three-run home run and Daniel Hudson pitched four-hit ball over seven innings as the Diamondbacks won their third straight. Adam LaRoche hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs.
Pablo Sandoval homered for the Giants, who have lost three straight to fall 1½ games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the wild-card chase.
Hudson (4-1) gave up two runs, walked two and struck out six. He’s gone at least seven innings in each of his six starts since the Diamondbacks acquired him from the White Sox.
Zito (8-10) allowed a season-high nine runs on six hits over 3 2-3 innings. He walked five and struck out one. The former Cy Young Award winner has lost his last six decisions. He last won on July 16 against the New York Mets.
The Giants had a seven-game winning streak over Arizona snapped Friday night as the Diamondbacks scored three times in the first inning against Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum. They doubled their output in the second game of the series.
Stephen Drew singled to start the game. LaRoche drove in a run with a groundout and Montero unloaded the bases with a double. Jose Guillen dropped Drew’s flyball to right, allowing two more runs to score.
Reynolds, a .500 career hitter (8-for-16) against Zito, hit his 29th homer in the fourth. He entered the game 1 for 15.
Andres Torres tripled and scored when Aubrey Huff grounded out in the first. Sandoval led off the fourth with his 12th home run and Burrell drove in a run in the eighth with a groundout.
In the ninth, LaRoche, who has 21 RBIs in 26 games in August, launched a towering shot into McCovey Cove, recording the 22nd splash hit by an opponent at AT&T Park. It was the second straight LaRoches reached the water.
Notes: Giants C Buster Posey sat out the game with a mild left forearm strain suffered Friday. He’s expected back on Sunday. … Giants RHP Brian Wilson was hit in the side of his neck when he missed a toss from Santiago Casilla while playing catch before the game. … Arizona RHP Brandon Webb threw a 52-pitch simulated game and felt bolstered by the outing. … Arizona 3B coach Joel Youngblood turned 59 Saturday. … Zito was the last Giants’ pitcher to allow as many as nine runs in a game last July 12 against the San Diego Padres.
