Twins summon rookie Matt Fox to start vs. Rangers
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins have picked rookie right-hander Matt Fox to pitch Friday’s series opener against Texas.
Fox’s contract was selected from Triple-A Rochester before the game and he will start in place of Nick Blackburn. Right-handers Rob Delaney and Alex Burnett were also recalled from Rochester.
The Twins used eight pitchers, including three starters, in a 10-9 loss to the Detroit Tigers that lasted 13 innings Thursday night. Blackburn’s next turn has been pushed back to Sunday. Fox will make his major league debut. He’s 6-9 with a 3.95 ERA in 123 innings for Rochester, with 21 starts and 14 relief appearances.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Fox, first baseman Justin Morneau was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
