LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Joe Torre, the manager of Los Angeles Dodgers announced his retirement on Friday just before his team took to field against the Colorado Rookies. The manager, during whose tenure the team won maximum number of league games reportedly, announced that he would not be returning as a manager in 2011. The position will be taken over by hitting coach Don Mattingly. The announcement was made during a news conference at Rockies Stadium.
During the press conference, Joe Torre held that Baseball has been his life, and most likely continue to be the same in some way or the other. Joe Torre added that when he took up the job of being a manager for Los Angeles Dodgers, he only wanted to find out “if managing can be fun again”. He opined that it was fun managing the team but added that he had to take many decisions by instincts and it is the same instinct that is directing him to leave the team. Before Los Angeles Dodgers Joe Torre was with the New York Yankees for twelve seasons. He led the team to win four World Series and six American League trophies. Although, Joe Torre announced his retirement, sources close to Los Angeles Dodgers have mentioned that there are likely chances that he would remain associated with the team in some way or the other.
Hitting coach Don Mattingly, who is associated with the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2008, on his part said to media sources that he is confident that he can manage the new role that he is supposed to take up from the next year. He said “It’s a belief in myself that I can do anything I put my mind to”. Don Mattingly had been the Joe Torre in New York Yankees as well.
