Polanco gets cortisone shot in left elbow
WASHINGTON — Third baseman Placido Polanco is expected to rejoin the Phillies for this weekend’s season-ending series at Atlanta after getting a cortisone shot in his left elbow.
Polanco had his elbow checked by a club doctor and received the shot Wednesday in Philadelphia. He left the Phillies after Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at the Washington Nationals.
Polanco was on the disabled list from June 26 to July 16 with swelling in the elbow and said this month he’s been playing with a small break. He said he’ll put off surgery until after the season.
Manager Charlie Manuel said Wednesday he expects Polanco to play in at least one game when Philadelphia wraps up the regular season at Atlanta on Friday through Sunday.
