Astros exercise option on Michaels
HOUSTON — The Houston Astros will exercise a $900,000 club option on Jason Michaels.
The 34-year-old outfielder hit .253 with eight homers and 26 RBIs for the Astros this season. He appeared in 106 games and started 32 in 2010. Had the option been declined, he would have received a $100,000 buyout.
Houston also confirmed Geoff Blum’s Sunday announcement that they will not exercise his $1.65 million option and instead will pay a $150,000 buyout. The 37-year-old had two homers and 22 RBIs in 93 games. He spent the last three seasons with the Astros.
