TAIPEI - Former world top tennis players Andre Agassi and Marat Safin are set to to play exhibition matches in Taiwan this week and coach local players.

Safin and Agassi will arrive Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, the sports promotion company Integration Sports said.

They are joined by world number 10 Mikhail Youzhny of Russia, who arrived Monday, and will play exhibition matches which also involve Taiwan players Lu Yan-shun and Wang Yu-tzuo.

The matches are scheduled to take place in Taipei and Kaohsiung later this week. The stars will also hold training camps for young tennis players and meet with fans.

Jeff Hsu, executive director of Integration Sports, said he invited the players to improve the level of Taiwanese tennis.

“As Taiwan cannot hold a formal ATP tour tournament (because Taiwan does not have a ATP -standard tennis court), we have to settle for inviting two retired tennis stars to play exhibition matches,” he told reporters.
