SYDNEY - Australian wicket-keeper Tim Paine reckons that the national team’s recent Test form had opened up opportunities for the next generation, and said that he will be ready, whatever that opportunity may be.

“I showed in (the 2010 tour of) India that my batting is probably up to Test level, but Brad is still the number one keeper in all formats. So, any role that I can get to play in the Australian team I will grab with both hands,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Paine, as saying.

Paine has already been named vice-captain for the Twenty20 squad, and is being touted as a contender to guide a new generation of Australian cricket.

Australia had earlier lost the Ashes series 3-1 following their defeat in the fifth Test at the SCG by an innings and 83 runs.

The victory had given England their first Test series win in Australia since the 1986-87 tour. (ANI)
