Experience of no consequence in Oz Open final: Clijsters
By ANIFriday, January 28, 2011
MELBOURNE - World Number Two Kim Clijsters believes that her Grand Slam experience will count for little in Saturday night’s Australian Open women’s final against China’s Li Na.
Though it will be Clijsters’ ninth appearance in a Grand Slam final and Li’s first, the Herald Sun quoted the Belgian, as saying: “Everybody reacts a little differently in those kind of situations. Obviously it took me a few tries to win my first Grand Slam. So, you never know. Everybody reacts differently. Some players are very easy and can block it out very easy.”
“She’s (Li) played big matches. She’s a little bit older and been on tour, so it’s not like she’s a teenager and coming up and is overwhelmed by the whole situation. She has that kind of experience a little bit,” Clijsters, who lost four grand slam finals before claiming her first, said.
The Belgian and Li - the No.9 seed in Melbourne - met just three weeks ago in the final of the Sydney International.
That day, Li triumphed 7-6 6-3 despite trailing badly early. (ANI)
