LONDON - Liverpool has dismissed Chelsea’s 35 million pound bid for Spanish striker Fernando Torres.

According to the Sun, Blues owner Roman Abramovich had personally set the offer in motion, after pinpointing Torres as his No.1 transfer target.

The move provides confirmation of Abramovich’s backing for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

However, a Liverpool source said: “Liverpool have had an offer for Fernando Torres from Chelsea and it has been turned down. He is not for sale.”

The Premier League champions’ offer represented a transfer record between two British clubs, and would have surpassed the 30.8 million pounds Abramovich paid to Milan for Andriy Shevchenko in July 2006.

Chelsea is now attempting to sign Benfica defender David Luiz before Monday’s transfer deadline. (ANI)
