Evans’ late score lifts Duquesne to a 75-72 OT win
CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Eric Evans scored on a three-point play with 14 seconds left to lift Duquesne to a 75-72 victory over Arkansas-Monticello in overtime on Tuesday.
Arkansas-Monticello’s Jeremy LaGarde missed a 3-point attempt with 2 seconds remaining in overtime that would have tied the game at 75 in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Classic.
Evans, who finished with 10 points, put the Dukes (4-0) ahead 70-67 with 3:14 left on a layup. The Boll Weevils (1-1) followed with five straight points on Gil Verner’s 3-pointer and two free throws by Anthony Lacey to take a two-point lead.
But the Dukes closed the game with five straight points, holding Arkansas-Monticello scoreless in the final 1:15 to pull away.
Damian Saunders led Duquesne with 18 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots. B.J. Monteiro scored 18 points and Bill Clark added 15 points and nine rebounds.
