Austin Peay defeats Southeast Missouri 76-71 in OT
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Wes Channels scored eight of his 20 points in overtime and Austin Peay defeated Southeast Missouri 76-71 in the Ohio Valley Conference Opener for both teams on Thursday night.
The Governors (3-3) trailed 62-61 after the Redhawks’ Lucas Nutt opened the overtime scoring on two free throws. John Fraley then hit a free throw and a jumper as Austin Peay took the lead for good with 3:50 left to play.
Anthony Campbell scored 19 points, Duran Roberson added 15 and Fraley finished with 12 for the Governors.
Austin Peay shot 75 percent from the free throw line (9 of 12) in overtime. The Redhawks (2-6, 0-1) shot just 37.5 percent (3 of and committed two turnovers in the extra session.
The Governors scored 23 points off of 19 turnovers as their coach Dave Loos won his 400th game.
Derek Thompson scored 18 points and Cameron Butler added 13 for the Redhawks.
