Murray State beats Eastern Kentucky 62-60

MURRAY, Ky. — B.J. Jenkins sank the game-winning shot with 2.6 seconds remaining to give Murray State a 62-60 win over Eastern Kentucky on Thursday night in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.

The Racers (6-1) have won six in a row after a season-opening loss to No. 12 California.

The Colonels (5-2) led 57-48 after a 3-pointer by Josh Taylor with 6:06 remaining. However, the Racers tightened up on defense and allowed only one field goal the rest of the way.

Jeffrey McClain gave the Racers the lead 58-57, and after the teams traded baskets, Joshua Jones hit a free throw to tie the game at 60 and set up Jenkins’ heroics.

Tony Easley led the Racers with 14 points, Isacc Miles added 13 and McClain came off the bench to score 12.

Papa Oppong had a game-high 18 points for the Colonels and Taylor added 15.

The Colonels had a season-high 20 turnovers.
