Sun pick up F DeMya Walker in dispersal draft
UNCASVILLE, Conn. — The Connecticut Sun have picked up veteran forward DeMya Walker in a draft of players from the defunct Sacramento Monarchs.
The Sun had the third pick in Monday’s WNBA Dispersal Draft. They chose Walker, a 6-foot-3 forward who averaged over 8 points and 4 rebounds a game for the Monarchs last season.
Walker, a 10-year WNBA veteran out of Virginia, has scored 2,000 points and pulled down 948 rebounds during her career.
Sun coach Mike Thibault says he was impressed with how Walker played against Connecticut in the 2005 WNBA Finals, won by Sacramento.
Walker calls it a bittersweet moment for her. She says she’s excited to join Connecticut, but the draft brings home the reality that the Monarchs have disbanded.
