Moore steps up for Washington State in 65-60 win
PULLMAN, Wash. — Freshman Reggie Moore had a career-high 19 points as Washington State beat Oregon State 65-60 on Saturday.
Marcus Capers added 10 points and had 10 rebounds for the Cougars (11-3, 1-1 Pac-10), who overcame poor free-throw shooting (16 for 29) and foul trouble from leading scorer Klay Thompson.
Thompson, who leads the Pac-10 with 25.6 points per game, fouled out with just under five minutes to play after scoring seven points.
Calvin Haynes had 17 points and Daniel Deane added 15 for Oregon State (6-7, 0-2), which was 15 for 15 from the free-throw line.
The Beavers, trailing 63-60 with 14 seconds left, had a chance to tie it but Haynes’ 3-point attempt was short.
Oregon State settled for outside shots most of the night against Washington State’s zone defense and shot just 36 percent from the field. The Cougars shot 51 percent.
