South Carolina State beats Md-Eastern Shore 80-67
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Darnell Porter scored 17 points to lead South Carolina State to a 80-67 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday.
Porter also added seven rebounds and four steals for the Bulldogs (7-5, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) who snapped a three-game losing streak. Jason Flagler and Arsenio Williams chipped in 15 points each for the Bulldogs.
Holding onto a two-point lead with less than 5 minutes remaining in the second half, South Carolina State went on a 12-0 run. Carrio Bennett’s layup capped the run, giving the Bulldogs a 77-63 lead with 1:36 left.
Tim Burns led the Hawks (3-11, 1-1) with 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Hillary Haley added 15 points, while Kevin White dished out seven assists. Maryland-Eastern Shore has now lost six straight contests.
The Bulldogs shot 50.9 percent from the field (28-for-55). while the Hawks shot 42.1 percent (24-for-57).
