Fernandez leads No. 21 Temple in 68-64 OT victory over Rhode Island

No. 21 Temple outlasts Rhode Island in OT
KINGSTON, R.I. — Juan Fernandez scored 18 points, including a big 3-pointer in overtime, and No. 21 Temple beat Rhode Island 68-64 on Sunday, snapping the Rams’ eight-game winning streak.
Fernandez, who came averaging 13.1 points, gave the Owls (13-3, 2-0 Atlantic-10) a 65-61 lead with a 3 with 28 seconds left in overtime.
Lavoy Allen added 16 points and 12 rebounds and Ryan Brooks scored 16 points for Temple.
Delroy James had a season-high 23 points for the Rams (12-2, 0-1), who finished 12 of 26 from the free throw line.
Rhode Island’s Keith Cothran made two free throws with 5.1 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 56.
