Free throw lifts Vanderbilt past Alabama 65-64

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Jeffery Taylor made 1-of-2 free throws with 6 seconds left to help Vanderbilt complete a come-from-behind 65-64 victory over Alabama on Wednesday night.

The Crimson Tide’s Anthony Brock then missed a shot in traffic and JaMychal Green couldn’t control the ball for a follow-up attempt as the final seconds ticked off with the Commodores (13-3, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) claiming their seventh consecutive win.

Jermaine Beal’s jumper gave Vandy a 64-62 lead with 47 seconds left. Green tied it with two free throws 11 seconds later after starting 1-of-5 from the line.

Then Tony Mitchell fouled Taylor, who missed his first shot before putting the Commodores ahead after they trailed by 10 points 2 minutes into the second half.

Alabama (11-5, 1-1) had won four straight games by an average of 15 points.
