Marshall defeats Tulsa 64-58
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Hassan Whiteside had 17 points and four blocks to help Marshall defeat Tulsa 64-58 on Wednesday night.
The Thundering Herd (19-7, 7-4 Conference USA) took a 56-54 lead on Chris Lutz’s 3-pointer with 2:51 left, and went 8 of 9 from the free throw line the rest of the way to win their fourth straight.
Whiteside, a 59.7 percent free-throw shooter, was 4-for-4 in the final 2 minutes and is now 21 of 24 from the line in the final 5 minutes of Marshall’s games this season.
Lutz finished with 15 points and Tyler Wilkerson added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Marshall. It was the 16th double-double of the season for Wilkerson, third-most among active C-USA players.
Ben Uzoh scored 22 points and Jerome Jordan added 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Golden Hurricane (19-6, 8-4).
Tulsa shot 39 percent from the field (23 of 59) and just 14.3 percent on 3-pointers (1 of 7).
