NCAA grants 6th year to injured Purdue LB Werner
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The NCAA has given Purdue linebacker Jason Werner a sixth season of eligibility after he missed two full seasons with a recurring back injury.
Werner sat out in 2006 and 2008.
Werner started all 12 games last season and was Purdue’s No. 3 tackler. After being named a co-captain, Werner had 77 tackles, 14½ for loss, forced two fumbles and had one interception. He has 105 career tackles, 16½ for loss and 5½ sacks.
Purdue also announced Friday that graduate assistant Nick Cavallo has been hired as defensive line coach at Campbell University, a North Carolina school that reinstated its football program in 2008.
