Jackson State defeats Grambling State 84-79 in OT

GRAMBLING, La. — Garrison Johnson scored 22 points to lead Jackson State to an 84-79 overtime victory over Grambling State on Saturday.

Cason Burk added 19 points for the Tigers (15-11,13-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who outscored Grambling 10-5 in overtime, scoring all their points from the free throw line. It was the 15th victory in 16 games for Jackson State.

Jackson State was 10-for-12 from the free throw line in OT to hold off Grambling (6-16, 4-10), which forced the extra period when Greg Dillon hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds remaining.

Grambling didn’t score after Ariece Perkins’ jumper cut Jackson State’s lead to 80-79 with 2:32 left. Burk hit two free throws and Tyrone Hanson and Rod Melvin hit one free throw each in the final 1:20.

De’Suan Dixon had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Jackson State.

Dixon scored 29 and Lance Fuertado added 17 points for Grambling.
