Williams’ jumper with 7 seconds remaining lifts South Alabama to 54-52 win over Denver

South Alabama edges Denver 54-52

MOBILE, Ala. — Tim Williams hit a jumper with 7 seconds remaining and South Alabama defeated Denver 54-52 on Thursday night.

Williams scored 22 points and Javier Carter came off the bench to add 13 for the Jaguars (16-14, 8-10 Sun Belt Conference), who snapped a two-game losing streak. Williams made 7 of 12 field goal attempts as the Jaguars hit 54.3 percent (19 of 35) for the game.

The Pioneers led 33-19 at halftime and held a 45-25 lead with 14:55 to play. But the Jaguars made a 26-5 run to grab a 52-50 lead on a 3-pointer by Williams with 51 seconds to play.

Denver answered with a basket by Brian Stafford that tied the game 52-52 with 13 seconds left.

The Jaguars scored 24 points, 15 in the second half, off 21 turnovers.

Stafford had 16 points and Chase Hallam added 15 for the Pioneers (16-12, 9-8), who had their two-game winning streak broken.
