Cain’s 34-point, 17-rebound performance leads South Dakota to 85-79 OT win

South Dakota beats Texas-Pan American 85-79 in OT

VERMILLION, S.D. — Tyler Cain scored a career-high 34 points and added 17 rebounds to lead South Dakota past Texas-Pan American 85-79 in overtime Thursday night.

Cain’s basket tied the game at 66-66 with 17 seconds left for the Coyotes (18-9, 9-1 Great West). He was fouled, but missed the free throw, and the game went to an extra period.

Cain did convert a three-point play in overtime to put South Dakota ahead to stay at 72-70. The Coyotes were 11-for-12 from the free-throw line in overtime to seal the victory.

Kendall Cutler also had a double-double for the Coyotes, with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Thomas scored 13 points for South Dakota.

Aaron Urbanus led Texas-Pan American (4-26, 3-8) with 15 points. Nick Weiermiller scored 14, Luis Valera 12 and Jared Maree 10 for the Broncs.
