Vermont beats New Hampshire 57-38 in America East
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Garvey Young scored 15 points and Evan Fjeld added 14 Sunday night to lift Vermont to a 57-38 victory over New Hampshire and into the America East championship game.
The second-seeded Catamounts, who won three straight titles from 2003-05 and then lost the next two championship games, will host fourth-seeded Boston University on Saturday night. The Terriers beat No. 1 Stony Brook in the other semifinal.
Vermont swept BU in the season series.
Up by four at the half, Fjeld and Young combined for six points in a 9-0 run at the start of the second half and the Catamounts (24-9) never led by fewer than six the rest of the way.
Freshman Ferg Myrick led the injury-depleted Wildcats (13-16) with 13 points and five rebounds. New Hampshire shot just 27.7 percent from the field, including 2-for-18 from 3-point range.
Vermont won despite going 6-for-15 from the foul line.
