New Mexico State defeats San Jose State 90-69
RENO, Nev. — Jonathan Gibson scored 22 points to lead New Mexico State past San Jose State 90-69 Thursday night and into the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference tournament against Nevada.
Jahmar Young added 16 points and six assists and Wendell McKines had 15 points and 14 rebounds for the third-seeded Aggies (20-11), who outrebounded the Spartans 38-25 and made 55 percent of their shots from the field compared to 43 percent for sixth seed San Jose State.
Adrian Oliver had 23 points and Justin Graham 14 for the Spartans (14-16).
Nevada (20-11), the No. 2 seed, defeated Idaho 87-71 earlier Thursday.
Top-seeded Utah State (26-6), which won the regular-season WAC title for the third year in a row, will take a 16-game winning streak into the other semifinal Friday night against fourth-seeded Louisiana Tech (23-9).
