Iowa calls news conference on basketball

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa has called a news conference to discuss the future of its men’s basketball program.

Athletic director Gary Barta will be at the news conference Monday afternoon. Spokesman Matt Weitzel says coach Todd Lickliter will not be there.

The Hawkeyes, who had just two upperclassmen play significant minutes, finished 10-22 in posting their first 20-loss season. They have had a losing record for three straight seasons under Lickliter.

Lickliter has four years left on his contract, which pays him $1.2 million a year. He spent six seasons at Butler before succeeding Steve Alford, who left for New Mexico.
