UALR: From nothing to 2nd round of NCAA tournament
NORMAN, Okla. — Arkansas-Little Rock coach Joe Foley has taken a program with no winning tradition into the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Foley won two NAIA titles at Arkansas Tech before taking on the rebuilding job in Little Rock in 2003. The Trojans had never had a winning season in women’s basketball and the school had even dropped the program for 11 years before reviving it in 1999.
Six seasons after Foley was hired, the 11th-seeded Trojans are making their first NCAA tournament appearance. They beat sixth-seeded Georgia Tech 63-53 on Sunday and will play third-seeded Oklahoma on Tuesday.
