Nebraska minor league team goes Jersey in promo

OMAHA, Neb. — No Atlantic Ocean. No Springsteen. No sign of the Jersey Turnpike.

No problem.

The Omaha Royals are 1,300 miles from Seaside Heights, but the Pacific Coast League team has cooked up a promotional night tied to the other coast. This Thursday will be “Jersey Shore Night” when the Royals face Colorado Springs in Nebraska’s largest city, not far from the banks of the Missouri River.

The promo is a nod to the MTV reality show “Jersey Shore” and its sleek cast. Fans get a free general admission ticket if they shows up with a Pauly D “blowout” or Snooki “bump” hairstyle, a bottle of hair gel or a receipt from a spray tan.

Between innings, a “fist-pump” cam will zero in on fans dancing to the techno tune “Sandstorm.”

Rob Crain, the team’s promotions director, says the Royals are playing off what’s hot in pop culture.
