Calhoun powers top-seeded Arizona St. past Hawaii
TEMPE, Ariz. — Kole Calhoun hit his third home run in as many days and No. 1 national seed Arizona State beat Hawaii 8-4 on Sunday night to win the Tempe Regional and advance to the super regionals.
The Sun Devils (50-8) won their fourth straight regional title and will play either Arkansas or Washington State next weekend.
Calhoun’s 16th homer of the season came with one out in the third and gave the Sun Devils a 3-2 lead. Deven Marrero hit a two-run homer and Drew Maggi had a two-run double for Arizona State in support of sophomore right-hander Jake Borup (11-1), who worked six innings.
Sean Montplaisir hit a two-run homer and Pi’ikea Kitamura had two hits for the Rainbows (35-28).
