Noel’s blast saves Coastal Carolina’s season
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Rico Noel’s two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth saved Coastal Carolina’s season and ended a six-game losing streak to the College of Charleston with an 8-7 victory Sunday night.
The Chants (54-8), the Myrtle Beach Regional’s top seed, trailed 7-6 after the Cougars’ Joey Bergman hit a two-run shot in the eighth. But after Scott Woodward walked and stole second, Noel launched a high fly into the left-field bleachers off closer Owen Brittle (1-2). Noel watched it clear the fence as his teammates streamed out of the dugout in celebration.
Coastal Carolina and the Cougars (44-18) play Monday for the regional championship.
The Chants hadn’t beaten Charleston in two seasons and were trounced 16-6 by the Cougars Saturday night.
