Cassidy’s 3 homers power FAU into regional final
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Eddie Cassidy homered three times, driving in seven runs, and Florida Atlantic eliminated Oregon State with an 11-7 victory Sunday in the Gainesville Regional.
The Owls (37-23) advanced to play Florida later Sunday. FAU needs to beat the Gators, the No. 3 seed nationally, twice to move on to next weekend’s NCAA super regionals.
The Beavers (32-24) head home after being let down by starting pitching for the second straight day, possibly a byproduct of pregame weather delays. Florida roughed up Sam Gaviglio on Saturday, and the Owls battered Tyler Waldron (4-6) for six runs in the first inning Sunday.
Cassidy’s three-run blast to right field highlighted the big inning. The junior added a two-run shot in the second and another one in the seventh.
