SAINT PAUL (GaeaTimes.com)- Detroit Tigers found it hard to celebrate after their crucial win on Monday due to the injury of their ace reliever Joel Zumaya. The released footage of the game shows Joel Zumaya collapsing to the ground seconds after the pitch in excruciating pain. The other players looked stunned by the reaction of the pitcher and stopped in the their paths to rush to him. He remained on the ground for some time while his forearm was seen twitching involuntarily while he was writhing in pain.

Manager Jim Leyland said that he felt sick to the stomach due to the injury to his key player. He said it is too early to comment on the extent of the injury or the extent of the damage. The player was immediately sent for a scan and no reports have been released. The injury though has been reportedly occurred in his elbow. Catcher Gerrard Laird said that he heard a pop sound after the throw by Joel Zumaya and the moment he collapsed in pain he realized that it was a bad injury. He said that all the team members are part of a family and his injury will be a big loss for the side. The manager said that the injury came without warning. He said the player was completely fit till the night prior to the game. He however said that he feels that every pitch in baseball is a player’s potential final pitch considering that the players hit speeds that the human arm is not built to throw at.

Joel Zumaya has been plagued by injuries in his career in the past as well. He has not been able to pitch in more than 40 innings in a year in spite of his potential due to the injuries. There were no celebrations in the Detroit Tigers camp after 7-5 win over the Minnesota Twins.
