DETROIT (GaeaTImes.com) — Just before today’s game with Kansas City, Jhonny Damon has confirmed that he will stay with the Detroit Tigers for the rest of the regular season.

Damon had been claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox. He had until Wednesday afternoon to decide whether to wave his no-trade clause and join the Sox or enact it and stay with the Tigers. After consulting with few of his team-mates, Damon felt that they want him there and all of them together ca make a strong push- at least make the Central race interesting. According to him,

I know going to Boston probably could have helped out my free agency. But so be it. I felt like, when we started this season, this team was all together in our thought process. We’re going to win and lose together. We’re going to continue that. We’re going to go out there and keep playing hard. These kids are going to keep learning and, hopefully, we can keep going.

Before Damon’s announcement, manager Jim Leyland said he had told the outfielder/designated hitter to “do what your heart tells you.”

Leyland also said Damon will get a lot of playing time if he stays with the Tigers. He’s batting third as the DH in tonight’s game against the visiting Royals.
