NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com) — The Colorado Rockies smashed the Atlanta Braves for 12-10 on Thursday with Troy Tulowitzki’s go-ahead single in the eighth inning.
Although the Colorado were lagging by 10-1 in the third innings, they chipped away against the NL East leader before taking the lead with four runs in the eighth innings. Through three innings, the best pitch thrown by a person in a Rockies’ uniform was delivered by Ken Burns.
Carlos Gonzalez hit a tying, two-run single with two outs, and Tulowitzki and Todd Helton followed with RBI singles.
The comeback from nine runs down matched the largest in team history during a victory, first accomplished July 4, 2008 in an 18-17 win at home against Florida.
The victory moved the Rockies within 4 1/2 games of the wild-card leading Phillies, pending the outcome of Philadelphia’s game today.
