Indians recall Drew Sutton from Triple-A
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians have called up infielder Drew Sutton from Columbus of the Triple-A International League.
The Indians need another infielder after Jason Donald was hit on the right hand by a pitch as he put down a bunt Saturday.
Cleveland claimed Sutton on waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on Aug. 6. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs in two games for the Reds on May 27-28, then was sent back to the minors.
In 113 games combined at Triple-A Louisville and Columbus, the 27-year-old Sutton batted .273 (98 for 359) with 24 doubles, five home runs and 42 RBIs. The switch-hitter batted .302 (29 for 96) with eight doubles, two homers and 15 RBIs in 29 games for Columbus.
Sutton leaves the Clippers as they start play against the Durham Bulls in the Governor’s Cup series for the International League championship. In four postseason games, he hit .333 (6 for 18) with a double and three RBIs.
He hit .212 with one homer and nine RBIs in 42 games a year ago for Cincinnati.
