Cabrera on crutches with sprained right ankle
CLEVELAND — Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is out of the lineup with a sprained right ankle, and it’s not clear when he’ll return.
He was on crutches in the clubhouse before the second game of a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians.
Cabrera was injured on a pickoff attempt at first base Monday night. He landed awkwardly as he got back to the bag safely. He limped to the dugout, and X-rays were negative.
Cabrera was relieved to learn the ankle was not broken, but spent a restless night in pain.
He has a major-league best 126 RBIs. He is tied for second in the AL with 38 homers and is hitting .328, third in the league.
