Red Sox OF Baldelli leaves game with knee injury
TORONTO — Boston Red Sox right fielder Rocco Baldelli has left the game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth inning after slamming into the wall and injuring his left knee. He was replaced by J.D. Drew.
Baldelli was hurt Saturday when he slid while trying to catch a foul pop from Aaron Hill. Baldelli made the catch as he hit the low, padded wall but the impact knocked the ball out of his glove.
Baldelli lay on the ground, then slowly got to his feet as manager Terry Francona and trainer Paul Lessard jogged to his side. Baldelli slowly walked to the dugout.
The injury came three innings after Baldelli hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left off starter Brian Tallet. Baldelli had missed the past two games with a sore hamstring.
