Collins, Vecsey to be honored by Hall of Fame

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Broadcaster Doug Collins and sports writer Peter Vecsey will receive this year’s Curt Gowdy Media Awards from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The awards, given annually to members of the print and electronic media who have made a significant contribution to the game of basketball, will be presented during the Hall of Fame’s enshrinement ceremonies Sept. 10-11.

Collins, a former NBA player and coach, is being honored for his work as a color commentator on NBA and Olympic broadcasts for NBC and Turner Sports.

Vecsey, a longtime NBA columnist, will receive the print award. He wrote for the New York Post from 1976 through 1989, then covered the NBA for USA Today until September 1993, before returning to the Post.
